Role overview
The Queensland Ambulance Service is looking for an accomplished and forward-thinking leader to direct the planning and delivery of its response to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, along with other major events leading up to the Games. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape a major readiness program and help ensure ambulance services are fully prepared for one of Queensland’s most significant milestones.
In this position, you will establish a strong program management structure, guide strategic planning and delivery, and help build the governance and assurance arrangements needed for a complex, large-scale initiative. The role also involves developing partnerships across government, industry, and the broader community to support successful outcomes.
You will take the lead as the first member of a growing team of more than 40 people, helping coordinate milestones, manage risk, and drive delivery across a major program that will have long-term value beyond Brisbane 2032.
What you will do
- Set up and lead a comprehensive program framework for Brisbane 2032 readiness.
- Oversee planning, governance, and assurance processes for a major, multi-million-dollar program of work.
- Support the design and execution of strategies for emergency management and major event preparedness.
- Work closely with executive leaders and stakeholders across QAS, Queensland Health, other government agencies, industry, and community partners.
- Provide strategic direction on pre-hospital planning and service delivery for major events.
- Coordinate delivery of critical milestones while balancing competing priorities and limited resources.
- Lead, influence, and motivate a large multidisciplinary workforce.
What we are looking for
- Proven experience building and leading complex programs, using modern project and program management approaches, governance structures, and assurance practices for initiatives worth up to $100 million.
- Background in major event planning, learning or education delivery, and policy development, with the ability to give expert advice on emergency management approaches and procedures.
- Strong communication, negotiation, consultation, and collaboration skills, with a record of building productive relationships at senior levels.
- Well-developed conceptual thinking, analysis, and problem-solving ability, with experience meeting performance expectations and organisational goals.
- Advanced strategic and innovative capability in program planning, management, and delivery, especially in pre-hospital planning for major events.
- Demonstrated success delivering complex, large-scale projects and event-related solutions aligned to organisational priorities.
- Ability to lead a diverse workforce effectively in a challenging environment with limited resources.
Mandatory and desirable conditions
- You may need to travel for official duties, and holding a C-class driver’s licence could be required.
- Holding a National Security Clearance is considered highly desirable.
- Formal training or practical experience in methods such as PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, PMBOK, or similar is not compulsory, but would be strongly preferred.
- Qualifications or experience in emergency management, major event management, business, or a related field would be viewed favourably.
- This position may involve shift work, including weekends, as well as on-call responsibilities.
