Job overview
We are looking for a Quality Lab Technician to join a sand production operation in Liwa, UAE. The role focuses on laboratory testing and quality inspections for sand products so they consistently meet company, customer, and industry expectations. This position plays a key part in supporting smooth operations by delivering dependable test outcomes and maintaining product quality.
Core duties
- Carry out standard and specialized laboratory checks on sand samples, including sieve analysis, grain size distribution, moisture content, turbidity, and specific gravity.
- Perform API- and ISO-aligned testing relevant to oilfield sand, including frac sand testing where required.
- Log test findings accurately and interpret the results without delay.
- Set up, run, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Inspect incoming raw materials and completed products to confirm they match specification requirements.
- Flag any departures from quality standards and communicate them promptly.
- Support corrective and preventive action activity for materials that do not meet standards.
- Help improve quality procedures and day-to-day process controls.
- Keep laboratory records, test sheets, and reports complete and up to date.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality summaries for management review.
- Maintain documentation in line with ISO and QMS expectations.
- Carry out regular cleaning, upkeep, and calibration checks on lab equipment.
- Ensure instruments remain functional, certified, and ready for use.
- Coordinate with maintenance staff when repairs are required.
- Follow all HSE rules, procedures, and safety practices at all times.
- Handle materials and chemicals safely within the lab environment.
- Help keep the laboratory tidy, organized, and free from hazards.
- Work with production and operations teams to drive ongoing quality improvement.
- Share test outcomes and quality concerns clearly with the relevant teams.
- Support internal and external audits and inspections as needed.
Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Geology, or a related discipline.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in a laboratory or quality control position, ideally in oilfield services, sand processing plants, or construction materials testing.
- Working knowledge of laboratory methods used for sand and aggregate testing.
- Exposure to API/ISO standards is preferred.
- Ability to operate lab equipment and maintain accurate data records.
- Basic computer literacy, including MS Excel and reporting tools.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented approach.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial setting.
- Prepared to work from a remote desert location in Liwa.
- Physically fit for plant and laboratory work.
- UAE experience will be considered an advantage.
- Shift duty may be required depending on operational needs.

The role is based at a sand plant in Liwa, UAE, which is a remote desert location. The job may involve exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor conditions. Shift work can be part of the schedule depending on operations.
