Road Worker Orange

Role overview

Transport for NSW is seeking a permanent full-time Road Worker based in Orange, NSW. This hands-on role supports road construction and maintenance work that contributes directly to local communities and the state transport network.

What you will do

• Perform construction, maintenance, and general labouring activities using plant, equipment, and both powered and manual hand tools.
• Assist with road building and maintenance projects such as road widening, barrier installation, pavement improvements, overtaking lane works, and heavy patching.
• Work a Monday to Friday roster from 7:00am to 4:00pm, with a rostered day off every second Monday.
• Take part in around 8 to 10 weeks of night shift work each year, with the relevant shift allowances paid.
• Be prepared for overtime, regional travel, occasional away-from-home assignments, weekend duties, and on-call work as needed.

Team environment

You will work as part of a committed crew made up of a team leader, road workers, and plant operators, all focused on delivering critical road maintenance and construction across the network.

About the role location

This position is based in Orange and requires applicants to live within 70 km travel distance of the Orange works depot.

About you

You should bring a strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive outlook, developed through work or life experience. You will be flexible, safety-conscious, and comfortable with physically demanding, practical work. A proactive approach, teamwork, initiative, efficiency, and a willingness to keep learning are also important.

Experience in road or construction work is useful but not mandatory. A truck licence is an advantage, though not essential.

Essential requirements

• Current Construction Industry White Card.
• Current Class C driver licence.
• Traffic Controller accreditation, or a commitment to obtain it within the first 3 months.
• Residence within 70 km travel distance of the Orange works depot.
• Willingness to work outside standard hours, including night shifts, callouts, regional travel, and periods away from home when required.
