Role overview
Convergint is hiring a full-time, driven Security Solutions Estimator to support complex estimating work and help connect junior estimating activity with senior design and estimating expertise. The position centers on building precise cost estimates for large RFPs, greenfield developments, and intricate security scopes, with a strong focus on programmatic customers.
About you
You enjoy solving difficult problems, producing accurate work, and taking on challenging, large-scale assignments. You work well with others, bring technical understanding to the table, and are ready to take responsibility for estimating efforts tied to greenfield opportunities and customer programs.
About the company
With two decades of steady growth and strong performance, Convergint aims to be its customers’ most trusted service provider. The organization is built on 10 Values and Beliefs that shape its culture and support its position as a global, service-based systems integrator. Its work is centered on helping protect the lives and assets of customers and their communities through the solutions it delivers.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for major RFPs, greenfield builds, and complex scopes across global accounts and verticals such as data centers, healthcare, financial services, utilities, and education.
- Act as the link between entry-level estimating and senior design/estimating teams while independently handling medium to large opportunities for programmatic customers.
- Review project requirements, specifications, and technical documentation to understand scope, risk, and deliverables.
- Partner with sales, engineering, procurement, and project management teams so the estimate reflects realistic costs, resources, and timelines.
- Assess project scope, interpret drawings, review costs, and make pricing decisions that affect project viability and profitability.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid sessions, and technical conversations to fully understand project needs and special requirements.
- Build accurate bills of materials so Account Executives can obtain vendor, subcontractor, and partner pricing for materials, labor, and services.
- Spot scope gaps, project risks, and value-engineering opportunities, and suggest practical solutions.
- Coordinate with installation teams to confirm estimate feasibility and accuracy.
- Apply working knowledge of regulations and compliance obligations relevant to the work.
- Keep current with security technologies, industry standards, and market pricing for products.
- Prepare and deliver accurate proposals for internal and external stakeholders.
- Take on additional duties as needed.
What you’ll need
- 3 to 5 years of experience in estimating, project management, or system design within electronic physical security, including access control, CCTV, and intrusion systems.
- Background handling large RFPs, greenfield work, and programmatic customer projects.
- Solid understanding of sector-specific requirements in healthcare, data centers, government, education, and financial or banking institutions.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, and technical scopes.
- Comfort using estimating software, Excel, and project collaboration tools.
- Knowledge of materials, labor pricing, and subcontractor coordination for physical security systems.
- Ability to identify risks, propose value-engineering ideas, and support profitability goals.
- Strong organization and the ability to manage several projects and deadlines at once.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams, customers, and vendors.
- A proactive approach and a commitment to continuous improvement and results.
