Position overview
This full-time permanent and wage role is with the Government of Alberta’s Public Safety and Emergency Services ministry at the Edmonton Remand Centre in Edmonton. The role sits within Operational Services 2 (012OSA) and is part of an open competition for a stockkeeping position focused on secure inventory handling, distribution, and support services inside a correctional environment.
Salary is offered at $24.49 to $30.98 per hour, equivalent to $1,775.28 to $2,246.29 bi-weekly and $46,335 to $58,628 annually. The schedule is 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with possible shift work that may include 6 days on and 3 days off across days, afternoons, and nights. The competition may be used to fill current and future permanent or wage vacancies at the Edmonton Remand Centre and potentially other roles at the same or lower classification level across the Government of Alberta.
About the ministry and workplace
The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services plays a major role in public safety, correctional services, policing and oversight, crime prevention, restorative justice, victim support, and emergency management. The workplace supports secure community outcomes and provides services in a correctional setting where professionalism, discretion, and collaboration are important.
What you will do
As a Stockkeeper, you will report to the Warehouse Supervisor and help manage offender property, institutional goods, and monetary items in a secure manner. You will also help ensure clothing, supplies, and other necessary items are delivered on time to housing units throughout the facility.
The job includes frequent interaction with offenders, law enforcement personnel, healthcare staff, and correctional officers. Additional duties may include driving a 5-ton truck, working in a loading dock and shipping/receiving environment, and assisting with fleet-related tasks such as coordinating regular vehicle maintenance and detailing with outside automotive vendors. Mechanical experience can be helpful, but it is not mandatory.
Working conditions and important notes
This position is based at the Edmonton Remand Centre, 18415 127 Street NW, Edmonton. Public transit access to the site is limited, so reliable personal transportation is required. Free parking is available.
Successful candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and may be required to work directly with offenders. A fingerprint-based criminal record check will be required for final candidates; online checks and checks from non-policing agencies will not be accepted. Any costs related to required documents, checks, or interview travel are the responsibility of the applicant. Applicants from outside Alberta may obtain the required documents from the jurisdiction where they currently live.
Wage-position employees are not eligible for vacation pay or benefits; instead, they receive 11.6% in lieu of those entitlements. A Correctional Institutional Salary Allowance is payable for each day worked.
Qualifications
You should have a high school diploma and at least one year of related experience, such as stockkeeping or warehouse work. An equivalency may be considered where one year of directly related experience can substitute for one year of directly related education, and vice versa.
Preferred assets include customer service experience in settings that handle cash or personal property, prior supervisory experience, working knowledge of Microsoft-based applications, and any general mechanical experience.
How to apply and additional information
Applicants should submit a clear resume that shows how their education, work history, and examples of relevant competencies meet the posting requirements. Dates for all education and work experience should be included, with month and year. If you completed post-secondary education outside Canada, an IQAS assessment or another recognized Canadian credential evaluation is recommended, and the assessment certificate should ideally be included with the application.
Applicants are expected to apply online through the employer’s application process. The employer notes that this competition may also be used to fill future vacancies across the Government of Alberta at the same or a lower classification level. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
For accommodations during recruitment or for more information about the posting, the contact listed by the employer is Krista Lammie.
