Student Development Officer

Role Overview

Batterjee Medical College is looking for a capable and energetic Student Development Officer to strengthen students’ academic progress, personal wellbeing, and career growth. The position focuses on building a welcoming and supportive student environment through counseling, student services, developmental initiatives, and crisis response. You will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to improve the overall student experience.

Core Responsibilities

• Offer guidance on academic, career, and personal matters, including study performance, stress-related concerns, and career direction.
• Run one-to-one and group support sessions that help students navigate difficulties and progress successfully.
• Plan, launch, and evaluate student-focused workshops and programs that build study skills, employability, leadership, and overall personal growth.
• Arrange orientation activities, extracurricular events, and leadership development initiatives.
• Support student clubs and organizations by providing guidance, structure, and leadership assistance.
• Develop and administer mentorship initiatives that connect students with faculty members, alumni, and industry professionals.
• Work with faculty and academic teams to identify at-risk students and put appropriate support measures in place.
• Encourage use of academic support resources such as study-skills sessions, tutoring, and peer mentoring.
• Promote participation in college life, including academic societies, volunteering opportunities, and professional groups.
• Help students lead initiatives that reflect the college’s mission and values.
• Respond to student crises by providing immediate assistance and directing students to suitable campus resources.
• Create early-intervention and prevention approaches to reduce student crisis situations.
• Contribute to the development and revision of student policies and procedures to support fairness, effectiveness, and compliance.
• Ensure student-affairs practices align with accreditation standards and legal requirements.
• Maintain clear and open communication with students, faculty, and staff.
• Partner with internal teams and outside organizations to broaden student support and developmental opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a closely related discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in student affairs, counseling, or student support, ideally in higher education or a medical college environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent planning, organization, and time-management abilities.
• Hands-on experience with program planning, implementation, and event coordination.
• Comfort using student information systems and standard office applications.
• Working knowledge of student development theories and established best practices.
• Ability to understand and respond sensitively to diverse student needs.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Capacity to guide students and teams during program delivery and engagement activities.
• Awareness of cultural differences and respect for a diverse student community.
