Opportunity
Join the Digital team at Te Tāhū o te Ture | Ministry of Justice at an exciting point in its journey. This Test Engineer position is part of the Productivity & Collaboration Services Team and reports to the Technical Product Manager – Productivity.
In this role, you will help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of solutions delivered across major enterprise platforms such as Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub. You will work alongside product managers, developers, business partners, and end users to confirm that solutions satisfy business needs and provide a smooth user experience.
Your work will contribute to both delivery projects and ongoing improvement efforts, supporting the Ministry’s goal of providing modern, dependable, and secure digital services. Responsibilities
- Plan testing approaches and strategies using business and technical requirements as the foundation.
- Design detailed test cases and scenarios that check both functionality and user experience.
- Carry out manual and automated testing across functional, regression, integration, and performance areas.
- Find, record, prioritise, and track defects, and work with developers to reproduce issues and confirm corrections.
- Create and maintain automated test scripts to increase testing efficiency and extend coverage.
- Support user acceptance testing and release readiness activities.
- Validate solutions against business goals and end-user expectations.
- Monitor system performance, reliability, and usability.
- Prepare test summaries and quality metrics, and present findings to stakeholders.
- Maintain test environments and test data.
- Work within CI/CD pipelines and continuous testing practices in a DevOps setting.
- Collaborate effectively across technical and business teams, including stakeholders involved with Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Industry certifications relevant to testing or quality assurance, along with a clear commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- Proven experience creating test plans and test strategies from business and technical inputs.
- Ability to build thorough test cases and scenarios.
- Experience with both manual and automated testing, including functional, regression, integration, and performance testing.
- Strong defect management skills, including reproducing issues with developers and validating fixes.
- Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts.
- Good understanding of UAT and release readiness processes.
- Experience verifying solutions against business and user requirements.
- Ability to assess system performance, reliability, and usability.
- Experience producing test reports and quality metrics for stakeholders.
- Experience maintaining test environments and test data.
- Familiarity with CI/CD and continuous testing in a DevOps environment.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.

Salary
The pay range for this position is NZD 88,455 to NZD 120,357 per year, with the starting offer determined by skills and experience.
