Role overview
Beyond Rail is looking for a train driver to operate freight trains and, where required, passenger services safely and on time across national and regional routes. The role involves keeping a close watch on train systems, signals, and track conditions, recording operational events, and reporting any irregularities without delay.
Day-to-day work also includes preparing and checking the train before departure, coordinating with control centers and operations planning, and consistently following all safety and quality standards. This position is structured as full-time with a hybrid setup: operational duties are carried out on-site in Berlin, Germany, while administrative work, digital training, and documentation may be completed partly from home.
Responsibilities
- Drive freight trains and, when needed, passenger trains on national and regional routes in a safe and punctual manner.
- Monitor train technology, signals, and route conditions throughout operations.
- Complete train preparation and acceptance checks before service.
- Coordinate regularly with dispatch/control centers and operations planning.
- Log operational activities and report deviations or technical issues immediately.
- Follow all safety, quality, and operating procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Strong practical knowledge of rail operations and rail transport.
- Solid understanding of rail safety rules and procedures, including emergency handling and detection of technical faults.
- Experience in freight transport is an advantage, especially shunting, train formation, and cargo securing.
- Willingness to keep learning and take part in ongoing training, including simulator sessions and rulebook instruction.
- Completed qualification as a train driver, for example in line with EU regulations.
- Valid driving license and route knowledge certificates.
- Good written and spoken German skills.
- High concentration levels and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Availability for shift work and weekend duties.
Additional information
The role is based in Berlin, Germany. The primary work location is on site, while selected administrative tasks, digital training, and documentation can be handled remotely as part of a hybrid arrangement.
