Role overview
The Transition Officer supports young people to reconnect with education or training and to find and keep employment, with the wider aim of lowering reoffending among young people involved in the youth justice system.
Key duties
- Help young people get ready for and take part in education, training, and employment pathways, while also strengthening interpersonal and self-management skills.
- Work as part of a team to plan support, deliver services, and connect young people with suitable education, training, and employment options.
- Provide assistance in both statutory and non-statutory settings to young people engaged in education, vocational learning, work experience, and jobs.
- Maintain accurate client information and records in line with statutory, legislative, policy, and procedural obligations.
- Build and sustain productive relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, and community partners.
- Contribute to a workplace culture that supports respectful, effective communication with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, including awareness of cultural protocols and the effects of historical policies and practices.
- Show cultural capability, or a clear commitment to developing it, to help create an inclusive environment consistent with the Human Rights Act 2019 and to support programs and partnerships that maintain cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
