Workday Payroll Consultant

Role overview

Deloitte is seeking a Workday Payroll Consultant to support payroll transformations within broader Workday HCM programs. In this permanent role, you will contribute to designing and delivering scalable payroll solutions while working with functional and technical specialists across areas such as HCM, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Integrations, and Data Conversion.

This position follows a hybrid work model. The primary location listed is Toronto, ON, and the role may also be based from other Canadian offices including Saint John, NB, depending on business needs. Occasional client travel may be required.

What you will do

You will work closely with payroll, HR, and finance partners to understand operational needs, legislative requirements, and process flows. Your work will involve leading design discussions, configuring Workday Payroll, and ensuring payroll connects effectively with related systems and downstream finance platforms. You will also help identify project risks and dependencies, then collaborate with the Project Manager to address issues and keep delivery on track.

The role combines advisory work, hands-on system configuration, problem-solving, and client-facing discussions in a fast-moving team environment.

About the team

Deloitte’s Canadian Human Resources Transformation practice is a large and expanding group of consultants across Canada, supported by a global network of HCM professionals. The team works across a wide range of HR disciplines and places strong emphasis on training, certification, and continuous development.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate brings several years of Canadian payroll experience, along with a solid grasp of payroll, HR, and benefits data and the impact of upstream and downstream systems. Experience with Workday Payroll or similar cloud payroll platforms is preferred. A Canadian Payroll Association designation such as PCP or CPM is required or actively being pursued.

You should also understand federal and provincial payroll legislation, including statutory reporting and compliance. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, organization, and communication skills are important, as is the ability to work through complex payroll scenarios and turn them into practical system solutions.

Additional requirements for Quebec-based roles

For positions based in Quebec, bilingual proficiency in French and English is required because the role involves interaction with national and global clients and project teams.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this role is $58,000 to $102,000 per year. Eligible employees may also take part in a bonus program. Deloitte notes that compensation is benchmarked regularly and that the total rewards package includes more than base pay.
