Role overview
In this position, you would work under general supervision and take responsibility for overseeing a Lead Hand and/or a sizable custodial team across one or more buildings. When the supervisor is not available, you would help coordinate the shift and keep daily operations running smoothly.
Key duties
- Review the quality of work completed by service workers, maintenance staff, and/or Lead Hands, then report findings to the supervisor.
- Keep track of attendance, hours worked, and related performance records for submission.
- Help organize and guide training for new employees so work is done safely and efficiently.
- Test new materials when requested for possible use.
- Handle requests from clients and other building users, including reporting repair needs.
- Address complaints from clients and visitors and follow up as needed.
- Oversee room setups and furniture movement using the proper equipment and written instructions or work orders.
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks such as replacing lights and completing emergency cleanup when required.
- Use lifting devices when needed to perform assigned duties.
- Coordinate the shift in the supervisor’s absence.
- Download, print, and assign jobs through an online work order system.
- Perform duties similar to a Lead Hand Service Worker, Caretaking, or Service Worker when needed.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in cleaning, with lead hand or other supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cleaning products, how they affect different surfaces, and the best methods for preparing floors and furniture.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written.
- Basic computer skills.
- Proven leadership ability.
- May need a valid Provincial Class G driver’s licence.
- Ability to use equipment safely and demonstrate safe operating practices.
Work schedule and terms
This is a full-time term role with one opening, available until November 30, 2026. The position is on-site in St. George (Downtown Toronto), Ontario, Canada. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The employee group is hourly, and the appointment type is Ancillary Operations. The schedule is full-time under CUPE F/T L3261. The closing date is July 9, 2026 at 11:59 PM ET. The job rate is $28.69 per hour.
