Children's Residential Support Worker

About the Role

Esland is looking for a full-time residential support worker for a solo home in Warrington, where the focus is on trauma-informed, therapeutic care for children and young people aged 8 to 18. Many of the children supported have experienced adverse childhood events and complex trauma, so the role is centred on helping them feel secure, valued and able to move toward a better future.

You will work as part of a close-knit team that builds trusting, nurturing relationships and supports young people in a professional parent role.

Key Duties

• Support the young person with emotional regulation, daily structure and personal growth.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure safeguarding remains a constant priority.
• Encourage participation in enjoyable activities, personal interests, education, and household tasks.
• Work 48-hour shifts, including paid sleep-ins, followed by a 4-day rest period.
• Contribute to a 365-day service model with structured shifts, paid bank holidays and overtime opportunities.

Pay and Benefits

• Annual salary is between £33,682 and £34,305, depending on qualifications.
• Estimated pay is based on £13.45 to £13.75 per hour for day shifts plus around 8 paid sleep nights per month at £60 each.
• Extra pay is available for overtime and bank holidays.

What the Employer Is Looking For

Experience in care, education, mental health support or youth work is preferred, although transferable skills and the right attitude are also important.

Essential Requirements

• Hold a valid UK driving licence.
• Have full, unrestricted permission to work in the UK.
• Share Esland’s therapeutic, person-centred approach to childcare.
• Bring a calm, compassionate and resilient manner.
• Be able to appreciate that difficult days are just as important as positive ones.
• Be aged 21 or older, as required by industry regulations.

Checks and Compliance

Employment is dependent on satisfactory enhanced DBS clearance, right-to-work verification and reference checks in line with government regulations and safer recruitment practices. The employer will pay the associated costs.
