About the Role
Currie & Brown is seeking a seasoned Contract Manager to oversee the contractual, commercial, and legal dimensions of significant construction projects in Singapore. This role involves comprehensive management of contract administration, risk allocation, claims, variations, procurement support, and dispute resolution throughout the entire project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in construction contract management, particularly within infrastructure, commercial, industrial, mission-critical, semiconductor, or data center projects. A solid grasp of standard contract forms and commercial governance frameworks is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete contract lifecycle, from tendering and award through execution and close-out.
- Review, draft, and negotiate various agreements including main contracts, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, and supplier contracts.
- Ensure diligent administration and documentation of all contractual obligations, notices, and requirements.
- Maintain meticulous records of contracts, correspondence, and contractual registers.
- Provide expert contractual advice and interpretations to project teams.
- Identify, assess, and proactively manage contractual and commercial risks across all projects.
- Advise project and management teams on risk exposure and effective mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to the development of commercial strategies to safeguard project and company interests.
- Monitor contract performance and ensure compliance with agreed terms.
- Actively participate in project risk reviews and adhere to governance processes.
- Manage and assess variation orders, extension of time (EOT) claims, and delay/disruption claims.
- Prepare, review, and evaluate contractual claims and their supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with planning, quantity surveying, engineering, and project management teams for claim substantiation.
- Lead negotiations with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Support dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation, arbitration, or adjudication.
- Assist in tender evaluations and provide recommendations for contract awards.
- Review tender documents to pinpoint contractual risks and opportunities.
- Aid in the drafting and review of subcontract and supplier agreements.
- Ensure commercial and contractual alignment during procurement phases.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all contractual matters within projects.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, legal teams, consultants, and clients.
- Participate in contract review meetings and commercial discussions.
- Deliver regular contractual and commercial reports to senior management.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, contractual stipulations, and regulatory guidelines.
- Uphold governance standards in contract execution and administration.
- Support internal and external audits related to contractual compliance.
- Promote and implement best practices in contract and commercial management.
Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in contract management, commercial management, or quantity surveying within the construction sector.
- Demonstrated experience with projects valued at SGD 50 million or higher.
- Proven background working with main contractors, EPC contractors, consultancies, or developers.
- Experience in infrastructure, industrial, commercial, mission-critical, semiconductor, or data center projects is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in construction contract knowledge and procurement frameworks.
- Familiarity with standard contract forms such as FIDIC, NEC, SIA, PSSCOC, or design-and-build contracts.
- Solid understanding of claims management, delay analysis techniques, and dispute resolution processes.
- Good working knowledge of project controls, scheduling, and cost management principles.
- Ability to accurately interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- High level of attention to detail and robust organizational skills.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities within a dynamic project environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional accreditation (e.g., RICS, CIArb, SCL, AIQS, SISV, or equivalent) is advantageous.
- Prior experience in claims preparation and dispute resolution.
- Exposure to hyperscale data center, semiconductor, or major infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with BIM-enabled or digital project delivery environments.
- Regional project experience across Southeast Asia is a plus.
