Role overview
Crate & Barrel is looking for a Designer who is enthusiastic about home interiors and helping customers imagine what is possible with current design trends. In this position, you will build strong customer relationships, guide people in choosing everything from a full-room setup to a single décor item, and support sales through a consultative, design-led approach. The job blends creativity, customer engagement, technology, and teamwork in a fast-paced retail environment.
What you'll do
- Increase sales while delivering a standout customer experience through meaningful interactions in-store, in customers’ homes, and through virtual channels.
- Develop polished design solutions using the company’s preferred tools, including mood boards, 2D and 3D floor plans, product selections, and customer presentations.
- Run design consultations in person, by phone, by email, or through virtual meetings.
- Complete projects on schedule and within the required timelines.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the brand’s visual direction and merchandising approach across store, e-commerce, and catalog channels.
- Stay current on product details, care instructions, competitor activity, and broader industry trends.
- Meet individual goals for sales, KPIs, service, and productivity while actively supporting customers on the sales floor.
- Listen carefully to customer needs and recommend the right products while promoting loyalty and financing programs such as designer rewards, Design Trade Program, and credit card offerings.
- Deliver friendly, efficient, and high-quality service with a positive and enthusiastic approach.
- Help train store teams on design services so they understand the available offerings and how to communicate them.
- Build repeat business by networking and creating long-term client relationships.
- Apply practical design knowledge, including space planning, fabric selection, lighting, and interior style awareness.
- Communicate clearly and promptly, translating the brand vision and customer needs into actionable design solutions.
- Use technology confidently, including 2D and 3D design tools, Google Workspace, video conferencing, and iPad-based workflows.
- Keep up with evolving design trends and adapt quickly as business needs change.
What we're looking for
- Working knowledge of foundational design concepts such as spatial planning, textiles, lighting, and interior design styles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to connect brand direction to customer preferences and needs.
- Comfort using digital tools for design, communication, and collaboration, including 2D/3D platforms, Google applications, and virtual meeting tools.
- Ability to remain informed about current home design trends.
- Demonstrated success in building lasting customer relationships.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in furniture sales, home décor design, retail, or customer service.
- Experience working directly with clients and recommending tailored solutions.
- Google platform proficiency and familiarity with virtual communication tools; experience with design software is preferred.
