This opportunity sits within Aecon Utilities and supports the Hamilton LRT Alliance on Package 1: Civil & Utilities. The alliance is working with Metrolinx to advance the Hamilton LRT through an integrated delivery model, helping shape design, cost, and construction planning during development. The position is centered on estimating and bid preparation for wet utility scope packages on a large, multi-year transit project involving water, sanitary, storm, and combined sewer systems.

What you will do

• Collaborate with estimators and managers to support the Hamilton LRT estimating team.
• Identify issues, gather information, evaluate facts, and form sound conclusions.
• Create scope breakdowns and estimating strategies to support proposal development.
• Assist the bid manager through the full proposal lifecycle.
• Work within both design-build and build-to-spec contract models, especially on major transit projects.
• Examine drawings, specifications, schedules, and other technical project documents.
• Prepare precise quantity take-offs and detailed cost estimates in line with internal estimating processes.
• Use estimating software to organize and assemble estimate data.
• Build estimates covering labour, material, tools, equipment, durations, and subcontractor/equipment supplier bid packages.
• Review subcontractor pricing, and coordinate with sub-trades on scope questions, pricing, and technical clarifications.
• Attend kickoff and approval meetings to review assumptions, risks, and estimate details.
• Develop construction duration assumptions to support forecasting and scheduling.

What you need to succeed

• Hands-on experience with wet utilities construction such as water, sanitary, storm, or combined sewer systems on municipal or major infrastructure projects.
• Background in estimating and/or operational roles.
• Project Coordinator or Field Engineer experience on utilities work is an advantage.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents accurately.
• Good computer proficiency, with familiarity in Accubid, Hard Dollar, and Primavera P6 preferred.
• Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed to meet project and bid timelines.

Compensation and hiring details

The target compensation for this role is CAD 70,000 to CAD 100,000 per year. Actual pay will depend on factors such as location, education, experience, specialized skills, certifications, training, and the complexity of the role.
