About the role

Environment Southland is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant to join its busy support team in Invercargill. This role has opened due to an internal promotion and offers the chance to support both governance activity and senior leadership in a regional council setting.

Southland is known for its distinctive scenery, welcoming communities, and access to some of New Zealand’s most remarkable natural environments. Environment Southland’s work focuses on the sustainable management of the region’s water, land, air, and coastal resources, which are central to both the local economy and quality of life.

In this position, you will help ensure Council committees, working parties, and liaison committees are supported with accurate meeting papers and timely records of proceedings and decisions. You will also provide efficient day-to-day support to the General Manager and their divisions.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities

All staff are expected to carry out their duties in a way that reflects the council’s responsibilities under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This may involve working appropriately under relevant legislation, partnering with mana whenua where required, and supporting the commitments made by elected councillors to Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku through the Charter of Understanding.
