About the role
Lake System is looking for a Game Designer/Director to own game concepts from the earliest trailer stage through full production and release. The studio is building an emotionally meaningful portfolio of games, with a current focus on affordable co-op titles. The workflow is designed to test demand early: the team creates a near-final Unity trailer before a prototype exists, promotes it through TikTok, and uses wishlist traction to decide which concepts move into full development.
The company is early-stage, currently pre-investment, and growing quickly. The trailer team includes 15 people, and the wider organization has 20+ team members across Germany, Portugal, France, Poland, and Armenia. A partner studio has recently joined to support trailer production, and the first trailer is nearing completion. The longer-term target is to increase output to two strong trailers per month and run three to six productions at the same time.
Responsibilities
- Lead game concepts from initial idea through trailer production, full development, and release.
- Manage multiple projects at different stages, typically up to two or three at once.
- Shape systems design and the overall player experience.
- Design levels, encounters, and pacing that support the core gameplay loop.
- Work in Unity alongside multidisciplinary teams during practical development.
- Maintain a clear creative vision and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to collaborators.
- Contribute to concepts that are intended to be market-tested before full production begins.
Requirements
- Strong game design ability, especially in systems design and player experience.
- Proven hands-on level design skills, including spaces, encounters, and pacing.
- Practical experience developing with Unity and working with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback while guiding creative direction.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Comfort working remotely with a distributed team.
- Background in indie or small-team game development.
- Bonus: basic scripting or technical design experience.
Compensation and joining terms
This is presented as an early equity opportunity rather than an immediate cash-paid role. For the first couple of months, the arrangement is equity plus a virtual salary that is paid later as a bonus, with no cash salary at the beginning. The company states that joining early gives you a larger share of each game shipped. A real salary is expected to begin in roughly 2 to 5 months, depending on either publisher funding after a project validates (around 2 months+) or a pre-seed raise after the first successful announcement (around 3 months+). The founders say they are already prepared for fundraising and have three interested investors.
Working style
The role can begin part-time and is fully remote. The preferred start is immediately or within the next week.
Company mission
The studio aims to bring emotionally rich, memorable games to market — the kind players remember for a long time.
Additional information
The founder invites interested candidates to connect for a walkthrough of the pitch and the first five projects.
