Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site position in Bengaluru for a House Parent responsible for the day-to-day care, supervision, and welfare of boarding students. The role involves guiding learners through daily boarding routines such as waking up, meals, supervised study time, activities, and lights-out, while ensuring the residential setting remains safe, respectful, and supportive. The House Parent keeps track of attendance and conduct within the boarding house, responds to concerns related to learner wellbeing, and encourages the development of independence, life skills, and effective study habits. The position also requires regular coordination with teachers, pastoral teams, and parents or guardians to maintain consistent communication and support. In addition, the role includes administrative duties such as keeping records, handling house operations, and assisting with safeguarding and residential-life policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise boarding students throughout the day and ensure routines are followed smoothly.
- Oversee wake-up, mealtimes, prep sessions, activities, and bedtime procedures.
- Maintain a calm, secure, and caring residential atmosphere for learners.
- Monitor attendance, behaviour, and general wellbeing in the boarding house.
- Identify and address pastoral or emotional concerns in a timely manner.
- Support students in building independence, self-discipline, and study routines.
- Work closely with academic staff, pastoral colleagues, and families to provide coordinated support.
- Manage basic house administration, records, and operational arrangements.
- Help implement school safeguarding and residential-life expectations.
Qualifications and Expectations
- Proven ability to offer pastoral guidance, emotional support, and care for children or young people in a residential or similar environment.
- Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to develop trust with students, families, and coworkers.
- Good planning and time-management abilities for handling daily routines, house activities, and routine admin work.
- Strong commitment to child protection, safeguarding, and inclusion.
- Previous experience in a school, boarding house, childcare setting, or youth-focused role is preferred.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends, as needed for boarding operations.
- An educational background or professional training in education, childcare, social work, or a related area would be beneficial.
- Comfort working in multicultural settings and respect for varied backgrounds, cultures, and family circumstances.
