Job summary
Bayshore HealthCare is seeking a detail-focused, professional housekeeper to help keep its facilities clean, organized, and safe. The role is centered on maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and supporting quality care for guests and clients while protecting the organization’s reputation.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out cleaning duties in line with infection prevention and control practices, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, clearing garbage, cleaning washrooms, and completing post-discharge cleaning.
- Follow established procedures for admission rooms, discharge rooms, and client rooms/units under isolation or outbreak conditions.
- Work in accordance with Bayshore policies and procedures at all times.
- Inspect rooms and ensure they are maintained to required standards.
- Safeguard cleaning equipment and report any shortcomings or issues.
- Escalate damage, shortages, disturbances, or other concerns to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Handle reasonable complaints and requests with professionalism, patience, and courtesy.
- Monitor supplies and replenish consumables when needed.
- Observe health and safety requirements and remain aware of company practices relevant to safe work.
- Take part in quality initiatives and continuous improvement efforts aligned with the company’s Quality Management System.
- Participate in proactive health and safety activities and notify the immediate supervisor of any related risks or concerns.
- Complete accident reports for direct reports who are injured on the job within 24 hours of the incident.
- Support ongoing quality improvement efforts and contribute actively.
- Keep client and company information confidential and share it only with appropriate Bayshore personnel.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Secondary school completion is preferred; Home Support Programs are an asset where applicable.
- Previous experience working as a cleaner or housekeeper is required.
- Ability to perform well with minimal supervision and maintain strong output.
- Comfort working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Friendly, client-focused approach.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and objectively.
- Good prioritization, multitasking, and time-management abilities.
- Capacity to work efficiently while maintaining quality.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and reach throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 23 kilograms without assistance.
- Ability to communicate clearly in speaking and writing in English or French.
- Understanding of, and adherence to, infection prevention practices.
- At least 1 year of recent experience in a similar role, or equivalent life experience involving comparable responsibilities.
