Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on and people-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join a growing accounting firm in North York, Ontario. This position covers a wide mix of HR responsibilities, including recruitment, employee relations, policy support, compliance, onboarding, and day-to-day HR administration. The role is important in creating a positive workplace experience while making sure HR practices support the company’s overall goals.
HR Programs and Continuous Improvement
- Create, roll out, and update HR policies, procedures, and programs that help the business meet its objectives and support growth.
- Contribute ideas and actions that improve HR workflows and strengthen employee engagement.
- Help ensure employees across multiple locations experience a consistent, supportive, and inclusive workplace.
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Handle the complete hiring process for professional, administrative, and operational roles.
- Work with department leaders to understand staffing needs and shape hiring plans.
- Coordinate onboarding activities so new hires settle in smoothly and effectively.
- Support workforce planning and suggest ways to improve recruitment processes.
Employee Relations and Performance Support
- Advise on employee relations issues, workplace concerns, and performance management matters.
- Support managers with conflict resolution, coaching discussions, and employee growth initiatives.
- Help build a workplace culture based on accountability, teamwork, and mutual respect.
Compliance and HR Administration
- Make sure HR practices comply with relevant federal and provincial employment laws.
- Keep employee records, HR documents, and personnel files accurate, organized, and confidential.
- Assist with workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, and employee exits when needed.
- Track and communicate updates on employment standards and current HR best practices.
Compensation, Benefits, and HR Operations
- Support the administration of employee benefits and HR systems.
- Maintain reliable employee data and reporting in HR platforms.
- Assist payroll by checking employee details, attendance, leave records, and related documents.
- Prepare HR reports and metrics that help with planning and business decisions.
Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, ideally in a corporate or professional setting.
- Post-secondary training in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- HR certification, or progress toward one, is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of Canadian employment laws and HR practices.
- Previous exposure to supporting teams across multiple locations is preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and organization skills.
- Comfort handling sensitive information professionally and discreetly.
- High attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a busy environment.
