Organisation overviewPahle India Foundation (PIF) is a policy think tank established in June 2013 by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, who is the former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog and currently serves as Chairman of PIF. The organisation works with the guiding idea of “Putting India First To Make India First.” Over the past 12 years, it has built a strong reputation among policymakers as an independent and trusted body that contributes high-quality inputs for policy development.Role overviewPIF is looking for motivated postgraduate candidates for two internship roles at its Guwahati office. These positions will support the organisation’s research and policy work with the Government of Assam. One role focuses on field-based tourism research and tourism policy development, while the other supports estimation of District Domestic Product (DDP) and the creation of district-level vision documents aligned with Assam’s target of reaching a GSDP of USD 143 billion by 2029–30.Position 1: Intern – Tourism Research & PolicyQualification: A postgraduate degree, or current enrolment in a postgraduate programme, is preferred, especially in Development Studies, Tourism, Economics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.Key work areas:Support the main research team in field-oriented tourism studies across project sites.Organise, schedule, and participate in discussions with government officials, industry representatives, and local communities.Collect, compile, and structure information gathered from primary and secondary research sources.Perform both qualitative and quantitative analysis of tourism-related information.Help draft reports, maintain documentation, and shape tourism policy suggestions and recommendations.Position 2: Intern – Assam DDP Project (Economics / Statistics)Qualification: A postgraduate degree, or ongoing postgraduate study, in Economics or Statistics is required or preferred for this role.Key work areas:Assist the project team in estimating District Domestic Product figures for districts across Assam.Contribute to building district-level vision documents that support the state’s growth objectives.Analyse economic and administrative data using both quantitative and qualitative methods.Support coordination and communication with government stakeholders.Prepare reports, presentations, and related project documentation.Skills needed for both rolesCandidates should be comfortable working with MS Office tools, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Strong analytical thinking, clear verbal and written communication, teamwork in multidisciplinary settings, report drafting, and the ability to interpret data are important. For the tourism research role, readiness to conduct field visits and travel as needed is particularly important.RemunerationCompensation will depend on the candidate’s skills and prevailing industry standards.
