Role overview
A rapidly growing, well-funded applied AI company is hiring a People Operations Manager to build and run the core systems, programs, and workflows that support employees across the full lifecycle. In this role, you’ll work closely with senior leaders and serve as a key operational partner for how the organization hires, supports, develops, and retains talent. This is a high-impact opportunity to join early and help shape the employee experience and culture from the ground up.
People programs and lifecycle operations
- Create and oversee onboarding experiences that are organized, repeatable, and strong in quality.
- Run performance review cycles with a focus on consistency, timely execution, and clear support for employees.
- Manage employee engagement surveys, communications, and, where possible, synthesis of findings and insights.
- Keep people records and workflows accurate, including promotions, role changes, and offboarding.
Systems, tools, and data
- Take ownership of the HR technology stack and improve how it is used.
- Develop better automations, integrations, and day-to-day operational processes.
- Protect the quality, accuracy, and reliability of people data and reporting.
Benefits and compliance
- Administer benefits in coordination with external partners or a PEO.
- Maintain HR compliance practices, internal policies, and documentation standards.
Culture and employee experience
- Build and manage employee engagement and recognition initiatives.
- Handle internal communications such as the employee wiki, guides, and People updates.
Manager enablement
- Equip people managers with templates, tools, and guidance for performance and feedback discussions.
- Create scalable resources that improve consistency and effectiveness across management practices.
Cross-functional partnership
- Work with Finance, Legal, Recruiting, and company leadership on strategic initiatives.
- Own additional People Operations projects as the organization continues to scale.
Experience and fit
The ideal candidate has deep experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or a closely related program management role. Experience in a tech startup, hedge fund, or venture capital environment is required. The role calls for someone who can build structured programs with limited guidance, manage complex cross-functional work, operate HR systems confidently, and handle sensitive information with care. Strong communication skills, good judgment, a collaborative style, high emotional intelligence, and comfort working through ambiguity are all important.
Compensation and location
This is a full-time onsite role based in New York City. The base salary range is $130,000 to $175,000, plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Final compensation depends on skills, experience, and overall role scope. Leveling is determined during the interview process.
