Overview
Blackrock Health’s Galway Clinic is looking for a Procurement Specialist with warehouse experience to support a busy materials operation. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, this role plays an important part in keeping supply flows efficient, stock well controlled, and departmental needs met on time.
Key responsibilities
- Work with hospital departments to understand their material, consumable, and service needs, then source and review those requirements appropriately.
- Raise purchase orders in line with MRP and reorder-point parameters.
- Prepare regular reporting on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including key metrics, trend analysis, and recommendations where gaps or risks are identified.
- Coordinate with suppliers to achieve the best balance of price, delivery performance, and service quality.
- Track purchase orders closely and follow up on outstanding items to satisfy customer needs.
- Reduce the risk of surplus stock and obsolete inventory.
- Maintain MRP and schedule settings as needed.
- Support cycle counts and the annual stock-take process.
- Investigate and resolve invoice mismatches.
- Where needed, receive, inspect, and store incoming materials in the warehouse.
- Where needed, handle internal requisitions from departments and move materials to storage areas.
- Look for ways to improve inventory controls, including methods such as Kanban and consignment arrangements.
- Take part in projects and cross-functional teams as required.
- Carry out additional analysis and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should have 3 to 5 years of experience in a materials or procurement setting. A Diploma or Certificate in purchasing/materials management is expected, and APICS certification or progress toward it is preferred. Experience in hospitals or medical device manufacturing would be an advantage.
Skills and tools
The role calls for strong procurement and inventory knowledge, the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately, and advanced use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook. Familiarity with MRP/ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle is preferred.
Competencies
- Communicate clearly in both spoken and written form, encourage open discussion, and listen carefully to other viewpoints.
- Build positive working relationships across teams, functions, locations, and external partners.
- Approach issues methodically, assess information carefully, compare options, and recommend practical solutions.
