Role overview
Fortescue Zero is focused on building zero-emission power systems and the technologies needed to accelerate decarbonisation. The business is growing across the UK, US and Australia and is part of a wider ambition to become a leading integrated green technology, energy and metals group. This opening is for a Production Planner to join the Kidlington team in a fast-growing, dynamic environment.
What the role involves
In this position, you will support the Production Manager in running the ERP/MRP-driven production plan and making sure delivery stays on track with available materials and resources.
- Work alongside procurement, warehouse and manufacturing teams to monitor the progress of material purchasing and assembly activities.
- Help strengthen and expand manufacturing capability using the team’s available resources.
- Carry out production order tasks generated through ERP/MRP systems, including assemblies and subcontract work orders.
- Create and process urgent or ad-hoc work orders, routings and bills of materials for internal changes such as rework or revision updates.
- Follow up overdue work orders to keep production aligned with the schedule.
- Contribute to planning discussions with Programmes, Procurement and Production.
- Assist procurement and material planning from an ERP/MRP perspective by scheduling and expediting materials needed for production.
- Take ownership of improving and promoting the production planning process.
- Guide other teams on how to use ERP systems for demand and supply chain scheduling.
- Plan, refine and improve material control and production scheduling to help customer build dates stay on target.
- Support the introduction of lean manufacturing practices into planning and production workflows.
- Develop processes and work within the company’s ERP/MRP platforms.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure new products and projects are introduced efficiently.
- Maintain accurate data throughout the ERP/MRP system.
What the employer is looking for
The ideal candidate should have solid experience in production planning and scheduling within an engineering setting. Familiarity with ERP systems is important, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 is preferred. Experience working in an engineering-change environment with multiple products and complex bills of materials is required, along with exposure to Siemens Teamcenter or another PLM platform. The role calls for strong organisation, close attention to detail, and the ability to stay adaptable in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment. You should also be an effective communicator at all levels, able to build strong working relationships across internal and external stakeholders. Analytical thinking, problem-solving ability and a consistent focus on key performance measures such as on-time delivery, shortages and ERP data quality are important.
