Role Overview
The Sign Designer will collaborate with a team of designers to create concept, permit, and production drawings for clients across the country. The work may involve commercial pylon signs, monument signs, wayfinding systems, and other custom signage. Experience in architectural and electrical signage is preferred. This is a full-time, hourly, on-site position, and remote work is not available.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare early-stage concept drawings and translate ideas into usable design documents.
- Convert approved concepts into detailed drawing packages.
- Build permit-ready sets for city approval, including all required forms, schedules, and technical details.
- Develop accurate production drawing sets for internal manufacturing teams.
- Support the design team on large programs and complex projects.
- Protect customer confidence by handling service-related information discreetly.
- Offer technical guidance and practical solutions to customers and project management.
Required Skills
- Ability to manage time well and stay organized while handling several assignments at once under deadline pressure.
- Comfort turning hand sketches into concept drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail with solid troubleshooting skills.
- Positive, persistent, and integrity-driven approach to work.
- Ability to perform independently while contributing effectively in a team setting.
- Working knowledge of MS Office tools, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Hand sketching and visual development skills for concept work.
- Understanding of industrial design and signage design principles.
- Strong visualization ability.
- Familiarity with architectural and technical drawings.
- Good grasp of layout, dimensioning, and detailing.
Education and Experience
Applicants should have an AA or BS in Graphic Design, or equivalent relevant experience. The role requires at least 5 years of experience in the sign industry working with electrical and architectural designs, along with 5 or more years of experience as a designer. Candidates should also be proficient in Corel Draw X6 or newer, or Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as MS Office applications.
Employment Details
- This position reports to the Director of Project Management.
- Employment status: full-time and hourly.
- Pay range: $25 to $35+ per hour, based on experience.
- Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
