About the Company
Nabu Casa is the company behind Home Assistant, the world’s largest free and open-source smart home platform, which serves more than two million households. It was created to keep the project sustainable and, in 2024, it joined forces with the Open Home Foundation to help safeguard and advance open-source initiatives. The company’s work is guided by privacy, choice, and sustainability, and those principles influence everything from product decisions to community engagement.
The business is profitable and operates without outside investors. Its funding comes directly from users who subscribe to Home Assistant Cloud and purchase Home Assistant hardware, so its focus stays on employees and users. Alongside Home Assistant, the company also supports other open-source efforts in hardware, standards, and voice technology.
The Role
Nabu Casa is hiring a Supply Chain Coordinator to take ownership of the movement of its hardware products from manufacturers to distributors and ultimately to customers using Home Assistant. This position sits at the center of the hardware operation and is responsible for keeping supply flowing smoothly across a global community.
In this role, you will handle daily supply chain work end to end, including purchase orders, manufacturer coordination, logistics, distributor support, inventory management, and RMA processing. You will also turn those activities into clear, repeatable procedures and documentation that can scale as the company grows.
The company is expanding its Commercial team with several important hires to support the next stage of its international operations and partner network. This role will help strengthen and scale hardware operations across regions and distribution channels.
Nabu Casa is growing quickly and needs someone who can take full ownership and move issues to resolution without waiting for direction. If a shipment stalls, a distributor needs urgent help, or stock must be reallocated between regions, you will be expected to drive the fix.
You will work closely with the Global Channel Manager, Hardware team, Finance team, manufacturers, distributors, and logistics partners. You will be part of the Commercial team and report to the VP Commercial, who is based in Norway.
Why This Role Stands Out
- You will own a complete function, not just a queue of tasks. The ideal background is someone who has already coordinated supply chain or logistics work in a structured setting and is ready to run the function independently.
- You will help create the framework, not only follow it. Because the company is lean and process-light, you will document best practices, turn them into SOPs, and shape how the function operates as it scales.
- The role blends operations and strategy. In addition to daily execution, you will use forecast data and modern tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to decide what to buy and when.
- AI is intended to support employees here rather than replace them.
- The company is stable and mission-led: it is profitable, investor-free, and funded by the community it serves, with products used in millions of real homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full hardware flow from manufacturers to distributors across multiple regions.
- Create, monitor, and close out manufacturer purchase orders through to delivery.
- Work directly with manufacturers on timelines, production plans, shipment coordination, and operational issues.
- Support distributors with back-office coordination, delivery status updates, and issue handling.
- Maintain order movement, inventory records, and related data in NetSuite.
- Handle partial shipments, stock allocation choices, and inventory balancing across regions.
- Arrange international freight and coordinate with logistics providers.
- Run the RMA workflow from start to finish, including coordination, root-cause follow-up, and reconciliation with manufacturers.
- Review forecast information and inventory levels to guide purchasing decisions and order quantities.
- Develop and keep current SOPs and supply chain process documentation.
- Spot bottlenecks and improve supply chain processes as the business scales.
- Collaborate with Hardware, Commercial, and Finance teams to keep operations aligned.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience in supply chain, logistics, purchasing, or operations.
- Direct experience working with manufacturers, including placing purchase orders and managing lead times and production schedules; experience with factories in China or other parts of Asia is strongly preferred.
- Comfort working across cultures and communicating effectively with international manufacturing partners, especially in Asia, with good judgment about professional norms, tone, and formality.
- Practical knowledge of inventory management, stock allocation, and partial deliveries gained through real operational work.
- Experience managing international shipments and logistics.
- Experience using an ERP system such as NetSuite, SAP, Odoo, or a similar platform, with confidence handling purchase orders and deliveries inside it.
- A history of introducing structure through process documentation, SOPs, and workflow improvements, ideally from an environment with established supply chain practices.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment with minimal structure and a high level of ownership.
- An analytical approach and comfort using reporting and forecast data to inform decisions.
- Strong organisation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Good-to-Have Experience
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite.
- Background in hardware, consumer electronics, or e-commerce operations, especially where you have direct manufacturer contact.
- Exposure to AI tools and automation workflows.
- Experience supporting distributor or channel operations.
- Personal familiarity with Home Assistant and interest in open-source, community-led products.
Work Arrangement
This is a fully remote, full-time role with a 40-hour work week. The company uses Remote to employ people across the world, and you will be hired as a standard salaried employee in your country. No work visa is needed.
There is no fixed daily schedule, but the team aims for at least 3 hours of overlap during the workday to support communication. You will report to the VP Commercial in Norway, which follows UTC +01:00 / +02:00.
Benefits
- At least the local legal benefits required in your country of residence.
- Five weeks, or 25 days, of paid time off.
- Fourteen days of paid sick leave if your local laws treat sick leave as unpaid.
- Six weeks of paid parental leave and six weeks of unpaid parental leave during the first year after birth; if local law does not cover this, the company will make up the difference.
- A home office setup budget when you join, with the equipment becoming yours after three years.
- A monthly smart home allowance to help you stay current with home automation products.
- 50% support for your internet bill at your home workspace.
- The ability to use work time to maintain Home Assistant-related side projects.
Compensation
The company aims to offer total compensation around the 75th percentile for the role, seniority, and local market. Approximate annual compensation in primary operating countries is listed below:
- Greece: 34,000 to 46,600 EUR
- Hungary: 15,000,000 to 19,600,000 HUF
