About Lyft
Lyft’s mission is to serve and connect people by building a workplace where employees feel they belong and can grow. The People Development team is responsible for creating the systems that help Lyft’s people develop, scale, and succeed.
As the Technical Learning Manager, you will lead the strategy and delivery of learning programs for the Engineering, Science, Product, and Design organizations. This is a high-impact role focused on strengthening how technical teams learn, grow, and stay aligned with business priorities.
The position brings together learning experience design, program leadership, and technical organizational support. You will take over an existing set of programs for software engineers, including technical learning, compliance training, and documentation efforts, and extend them across Lyft’s broader technology groups.
You will report to the Head of People Development and collaborate with functional excellence leaders, HR business partners, and other internal partners to make sure technical learning work is effective, well received, and connected to measurable outcomes.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will oversee technical learning end to end, from strategy through execution, while keeping programs current, scalable, and relevant to engineering teams.
Program ownership
- Set direction and manage delivery for Lyft’s technical learning portfolio, including ongoing engineering education, documentation improvement, and compliance learning.
- Run mid-cycle programs that already have active stakeholders and fixed commitments, maintaining consistency, quality, and follow-through.
- Oversee editorial operations for internal technical content efforts such as the Tech Blog, including workflow, contributor coordination, and publishing processes in partnership with engineers.
- Review the current learning portfolio and recommend changes based on engineer needs and business goals.
- Design learning experiences that help technical teams do their best work.
- Build AI learning into all relevant programs, including LLM education, productivity-focused AI enablement, and coordination across Lyft’s AI training efforts.
- Work with internal AI Champions and peer program owners so learning initiatives complement one another and reach the right groups.
- Maintain technical learning sites, materials, and reference resources so content stays accurate, easy to find, and aligned to current priorities.
Program design and scaling
- Create learning programs in uncertain or undefined areas by clarifying goals, setting success measures, and designing for long-term sustainability.
- Use champion networks and internal subject matter experts to expand content delivery efficiently.
- Document programs so they can be self-serve or transferred smoothly when needed.
- Develop a scalable continuing education model for engineers based on identified capability gaps.
- Produce learning content tailored to technical audiences.
Cross-functional integration
- Coordinate with technical onboarding to ensure the onboarding experience connects well with the wider technical learning ecosystem.
- Bring technical manager development topics into the broader People Development manager curriculum so engineering managers are supported appropriately.
- As the function grows, help with resourcing decisions and contribute to shaping the structure of technical learning at Lyft.
Stakeholder partnership
- Develop trusted relationships with engineering leaders, infrastructure TPMs, and other tech-adjacent teams as the main PDev contact for the technical community.
- Work with HRBPs and People Analytics to understand audience needs and evaluate program impact.
- Coordinate across legal, communications, compliance, LMS, and platform partners so programs continue to run smoothly.
What we are looking for
Lyft is seeking someone with substantial experience in learning and development, technical program management, or a similar field, along with proven ownership of complex cross-functional initiatives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable creating learning for technical audiences, working with code-related workflows, and building practical curricula for hands-on environments.
You should be able to manage several programs at once, set milestones, identify risks, and adapt when the work is ambiguous. The role also requires the ability to build strong relationships with engineering leaders and other stakeholders, and to communicate recommendations clearly to senior leadership.
Experience with AI/ML learning content, developer education, or technical enablement is important, as is familiarity with LMS tools and compliance training processes. A fast-moving environment where programs may need to be created, inherited, or adjusted should feel comfortable to you.
