Urdu QA Lead

About the role

This is a remote, hourly contract position for an Urdu Quality Assurance Lead. The role focuses on maintaining quality and consistency across Urdu AI training work, as well as guiding trainer and QA performance. You will review AI-generated Urdu content and QA output, compare it with project instructions, deliver clear written feedback, and make sure contributors meet the required standards.

The work calls for careful evaluation of Urdu material for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural fit, meaning retention, formatting, and compliance with project rubrics. You will also help identify repeated quality problems, keep trainers and QAs informed, support onboarding, maintain documentation, and re-engage contributors who are inactive or inconsistent.

This position sits within a fast-growing AI data services company that supports training-data needs for leading AI organizations and foundation model teams. Your leadership will help improve Urdu-language AI systems by ensuring the training data is natural, correct, culturally appropriate, well documented, and aligned with client expectations.

There is no active project available immediately for this role. If you qualify, you will be among the first experts contacted when suitable opportunities open up, and you may also gain access to future work through the expert network.

Responsibilities

• Review samples of Urdu work, flag quality issues, and share ongoing feedback through direct messages while escalating serious or repeated concerns.
• Keep trainers and QAs updated on Discord about new instructions, project adjustments, workflow changes, and quality expectations.
• Answer trainer and QA questions clearly and quickly, especially on Urdu wording, register, translation accuracy, cultural nuance, right-to-left formatting, Nastaliq conventions, and special edge cases.
• Contact contributors who are inactive or underutilized, encourage them to resume work, track follow-ups, and note any availability issues.
• Build and maintain project documentation such as style guides, trackers, FAQs, quality notes, examples, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
• Run onboarding and training sessions to explain project rules, workflows, rubrics, quality benchmarks, and Urdu-specific script and style requirements.
• Make sure trainers and QAs apply the Urdu guidelines consistently and stay aligned as project requirements change.
• Suggest improvements to workflows, identify recurring quality gaps, and help create scalable QA processes for Urdu-language projects.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Urdu, linguistics, translation, communications, journalism, English, education, quality assurance, or a related field.
• Native or near-native command of Urdu, with strong reading and writing ability.
• Strong English skills to interpret project instructions, collaborate with teams, and provide precise feedback in English.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in Urdu writing, editing, translation, localization, content QA, AI training, education, annotation, or a similar language-review function.
• Solid knowledge of Urdu grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, register, cultural context, Nastaliq script usage, and right-to-left formatting.
• Ability to work across Pakistan Urdu, India Urdu, formal/literary Urdu, and conversational Urdu depending on the assignment.
• Capability to assess content using detailed rubrics and spot issues such as mistranslation, overly literal phrasing, unnatural tone, wrong register, formatting or script errors, hallucinated claims, ambiguity, and inconsistent terminology.
• Prior experience guiding or supporting remote teams of trainers, annotators, reviewers, editors, or QAs is highly desirable.
• Comfort with fast-paced remote work and collaboration tools such as Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and project management platforms.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage style guides, FAQs, trackers, onboarding resources, honeypots, and other quality documents.
• Experience in AI training, data annotation, large language models, prompt and response evaluation, or rubric-based LLM QA is an advantage.
