Role overview
GHD is seeking a Water Engineer to join its expanding Water team in Tauranga. This position focuses on delivering strong engineering outcomes across a broad mix of water infrastructure work, helping communities prepare for changing flood, drought, and storm conditions while supporting resilient solutions for clients.
You will be part of a collaborative group of water specialists and will draw on GHD’s global expertise and long-standing technical experience to contribute to projects that support both people and the natural environment.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out investigation, design, and delivery of projects covering stormwater, water supply, wastewater, and wider multidisciplinary infrastructure.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with current and prospective clients to support successful project delivery and strong client satisfaction.
- Prepare clear, high-quality reports, correspondence, and other project documentation.
- Split time between office-based and site-based work while coordinating with virtual teams across GHD offices in New Zealand and overseas.
- Support graduate design engineers through mentoring, guidance, and training on project work.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate will hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and bring around 5 to 7 years of related experience. A solid grasp of industry design standards and guidelines is important, along with practical exposure to both public and private sector projects.
You should have strong written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable using Microsoft Excel and Word, and have hands-on experience with design tools such as 12D, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD. The role also calls for someone who works well in a team, enjoys supporting others, stays organised across multiple priorities, and remains proactive, adaptable, and self-driven when new challenges arise.
Work arrangement and additional information
This is an onsite role in Tauranga with a hybrid working model. Team members are expected in the office three days per week to collaborate, connect, and contribute in person while still benefiting from some flexibility.
GHD is committed to equal employment opportunities and welcomes applications from candidates of all nationalities, genders, and cultural backgrounds. The company also asks that agency resumes are not submitted at this stage.
