About BCHA
BCHA is a South West charitable housing association with more than 50 years of history, working to address housing need and help end homelessness. The organisation manages properties across the South West, offering affordable housing and temporary accommodation to a broad range of customers.
Role overview
We are seeking a committed Cleaning Operative to provide reliable, high-standard cleaning across properties in Yeovil. The role is central to keeping shared areas clean and presentable, as well as preparing vacant rooms so they are ready for new occupants. You will be expected to work efficiently, deliver value for money, support continuous improvement, and contribute to strong customer satisfaction.
As part of a small, collaborative team, you will help build respectful and trusting relationships with customers as they work toward greater independence. Your contribution will directly support a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment.
Key duties
- Keep accommodation clean and hygienic at all times, with particular attention to shared and communal spaces.
- Work alongside the Housing and Support Team to reinforce good hygiene practices within individual rooms.
- Respond to urgent or reactive cleaning requirements when they occur.
Requirements
The successful candidate should be physically able to complete routine cleaning work and have prior experience in either domestic or commercial cleaning. Good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, and a collaborative attitude are important. You should also be able to work independently when needed, stay organised, and complete tasks efficiently.
We are looking for someone who is self-driven, flexible, enthusiastic, and willing to learn and develop. Commercial cleaning knowledge and experience are desirable, along with a professional manner, respect for personal and professional boundaries, a positive can-do approach, and commitment to BCHA’s values.
Additional information
This is a full-time, permanent position for 37.5 hours per week. The pay rate is £12.71 per hour.
BCHA uses safer recruitment practices and places safeguarding children and adults at the centre of its work. The organisation is committed to preventing unsuitable people from joining and expects all staff and volunteers to share this responsibility while treating applicants fairly and in line with current legislation.
