About EY and the opportunity
EY is looking for a Data Engineer at Senior Consultant or Manager level to help design and deliver scalable data solutions that create measurable business impact. In this role, you will work closely with data and analytics specialists, programme teams, leaders, and stakeholders to shape the analytics environment and turn business needs into clear technical designs.
The position is based in Auckland, New Zealand, and may be adapted for flexible working with reduced hours, depending on client needs.
Key responsibilities
- Explain the advantages and trade-offs of different data engineering approaches to both technical teams and senior business leaders.
- Design, develop, and run scalable on-premise or cloud-based data engineering solutions covering storage, integration, governance, validation, and security across the full data lifecycle.
- Maintain active stakeholder engagement, prepare weekly progress updates, and oversee project budgets.
- Where needed, coordinate junior team members or colleagues to keep work structured and aligned to team objectives.
- Create data models and diagrams in ER Studio for logical and physical design as part of the build process.
- Work with Databricks Data Platform, Azure Data Factory, Python, SQL, Azure DevOps, and Power BI, with more than one year of experience in these technologies.
- Apply and refine ingestion patterns as needed, including changes requested by architects.
Skills and experience for success
- Hands-on knowledge of data pipeline development across tools such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Genie, Azure DevOps, and Unity Catalog.
- Exposure to manufacturing or supply chain environments is helpful, though not mandatory.
- Proven ability to transform large and complex datasets from source systems into target platforms, ideally using Azure and Databricks for SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA data engineering.
- Experience with modern development practices such as source control, code reviews, and testing frameworks.
- Ability to improve the way data is organised, managed, and integrated so it remains accurate, usable, and valuable to the business.
- A leadership style that supports safety, health, and wellbeing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and with impact.
What EY offers
- A career development environment focused on building future-ready skills and providing world-class learning experiences.
- Flexible work arrangements that support balance between professional and personal commitments.
- A broad benefits package, including a yearly wellness incentive, access to an additional 8 weeks of flex leave each year, and family-friendly policies such as up to 26 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave.
