Description de l'emploi
Role overview
This opportunity is with a major hedge fund that is continuing to grow steadily, offering a more stable outlook than many big-tech environments. The team has already hired several people from top technology companies and expects to keep expanding.
The position is centred on solving challenging, real-world data engineering problems. While part of the broader platform supports investment activities, much of your day-to-day work will be outside pure finance, focusing on building and moving data at scale.
What you will do
You will work in a team that has created thousands of ingestion pipelines, handling data from many different sources and formats. Your job will be to bring information into the business, design and maintain the surrounding data infrastructure, and ensure the right people can access the data they need to build investment models.
The environment is highly technical and flexible, with opportunities to work across a broad toolset. Core engineering work is mainly done in Python, C# and Scala, alongside multiple databases. Snowflake is heavily used, and Docker and Kubernetes are part of the containerisation setup. ETL and ELT processes are an everyday part of the role, with Airflow, Spark, Hive and related technologies used regularly.
What the team is looking for
You should have a strong academic background and some commercial experience in a data-intensive software engineering or data engineering role. Experience in financial services would be advantageous, but it is not essential.
Exposure to the technologies mentioned above is preferred, though you do not need to know every tool in the stack. Learning new technologies quickly is expected to be part of the role.
Compensation and environment
This is a very large fund with significant ambition and a strong focus on staying at the forefront of technology. Rewards can be substantial, with first-year total compensation potentially reaching £200,000, and the package may improve further year on year depending on performance.
When working from the office, you will have access to a fully catered canteen with a Michelin-standard chef, barista coffee, a gym, and additional amenities.
Application note
A current CV is not required at the initial stage; support can be provided to update it later if needed.
