Role Overview

The Data Platform Manager will join the Performance and Risk team and act as the main technical owner of the company’s enterprise risk and portfolio analytics platform. Working in close partnership with the Head of Performance & Risk, investment stakeholders, custodians, data suppliers, and the platform provider, this role is responsible for the full technical implementation of the platform as well as its day-to-day ongoing operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the overall solution architecture and data model for the Performance and Risk platform, including reference data structures, holdings and portfolio hierarchies, and the analytics warehouse.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automated data integrations from internal applications, custodians, market data vendors, and service partners through file-based and API-based pipelines, while ensuring strong data validation, reconciliation, and governance.
  • Drive the technical rollout of the risk platform, covering interface design, system setup, user permissions, user acceptance testing, parallel testing, and a carefully managed production launch.
  • Manage the recurring nightly production cycle, monitor platform health, coordinate releases, and work with the vendor to keep operations stable and reliable.
  • Serve as the technical bridge between investment teams and the platform vendor, turning complex technical topics into clear business updates and supporting both reporting and ad hoc data requirements for the risk function.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Financial Engineering, Information Systems, or another quantitative field; relevant professional experience may be accepted in place of formal education.
  • At least 6 to 10 years of experience in technology or data engineering within financial services such as investment management, asset management, or fintech.
  • Prior involvement in implementing or supporting an enterprise risk or portfolio analytics platform is highly desirable, whether on the buy side, for an asset owner, or as part of a vendor implementation team.
  • Practical experience creating relational data models and analytics warehouses for financial reference data and analytical datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and run automated financial data pipelines using ETL/ELT and SFTP, without relying on a large engineering organization.
  • Working knowledge of investment data such as positions and holdings, security identifiers, pricing, NAV, benchmarks, and OTC derivative terms.
  • Exposure to enterprise risk platforms such as BlackRock Aladdin, MSCI BarraOne, or comparable systems.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, along with the ability to operate independently as the sole technology lead in a lean environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders and vendors and for explaining technical issues in terms of business impact.
