Role Overview
The handyperson at Hudson Piers is tasked with day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and general property upkeep. The goal is to keep the building safe, operational, and appealing for residents while handling service requests quickly and with a professional approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out plumbing fixes such as repairing faucets, toilets, drains, and leaks.
- Diagnose and repair common appliance issues, including washers, dryers, refrigerators, microwaves, gas ranges, and dishwashers.
- Perform basic HVAC troubleshooting and minor repair work.
- Handle simple electrical tasks involving light fixtures, switches, and outlets.
- Complete carpentry repairs on doors, locks, cabinets, trim, and windows.
- Patch drywall and finish areas with painting or touch-up work.
- Respond to tenant maintenance requests in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
- Inspect the property regularly to spot maintenance concerns before they grow into larger issues.
- Turn over vacant apartments for incoming residents by completing cleaning, repairs, and cosmetic improvements.
- Perform seasonal upkeep such as drain cleaning, HVAC filter changes, and pump strainer cleaning.
- Keep exterior lighting and shared spaces in good working order.
- Work in line with safety requirements, building codes, and company policies.
- Document completed work accurately, note materials used, and close work orders with proper comments in Yardi/RentCafe.
Requirements
- Practical knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, carpentry, painting, and general HVAC/appliance repair.
- Ability to operate power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Good verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Comfort working independently and balancing multiple tasks.
- Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Physical ability to climb ladders, kneel, bend, and work in tight spaces.
- Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Experience in a luxury hotel or residential property setting is an advantage.
- Familiarity with building management systems and basic computer use will be beneficial.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay begins at $22.00 per hour, with the final rate depending on experience. Medical coverage and paid time off are included as benefits.
