Description de l'emploi
Role overview
We are looking for a Maintenance Operative to join the AASC team in Sandwell. This full-time position is based on site and follows a 37.5-hour working week. The salary range is £27,500 to £33,500, depending on experience and skill level.
In this role, you will help keep managed properties safe, functional, and aligned with the standards expected by the people who rely on them. Your work will contribute directly to maintaining comfortable, compliant living spaces and ensuring the homes meet Home Office requirements.
Key duties
- Carry out general maintenance work across an assigned group of properties.
- Record and resolve defects through the AORA IT system to keep property information up to date.
- Help maintain buildings so they remain free from defects and compliant with Home Office contract standards.
- Work with approved subcontractors, making sure access is arranged, standards are met, and audits are completed.
- Perform annual Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) across the properties in your portfolio.
- When needed, handle specialist trade tasks and assist colleagues with diagnosing faults.
- Complete garden upkeep, furniture repairs, and materials handling using approved suppliers.
- Manage waste disposal responsibly and in line with recycling expectations.
- Deliver tasks against KPIs, respond to urgent issues first, and coordinate with Housing Officers.
What we are looking for
To succeed in this role, you should bring experience in building maintenance or a related trade. A solid understanding of health and safety and safe working methods is important, along with the ability to organise your workload, work independently, and solve problems effectively.
Good communication and teamwork skills are essential, as you will work closely with colleagues and other stakeholders. A valid UK driving licence is required, and you must be willing to travel across the region.
Vetting and checks
This position requires BPSS clearance, which includes verification of identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record checks in line with government security standards. Depending on the responsibilities of the role, additional Security Clearance such as CTC or SC may also be needed, involving more detailed checks on employment, criminal history, and financial background. UK residency requirements may apply for some levels of clearance. An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also need to be completed so any support required for the role can be identified.

The organisation offers a supportive environment with strong opportunities to learn and progress. You can expect mentoring, training, and clear pathways for internal advancement, supported by tools designed to help you develop your career.
- Competitive salary with annual salary reviews
- Contributory pension scheme of up to 6%
