Role Overview
1st Step Solutions is assisting a prominent UK Engineering Services firm in their search for a Mechanical Estimator. This permanent position, based in Witham, is crucial for delivering high-quality building services projects. The role involves generating precise and competitive mechanical estimates for diverse sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, and infrastructure. Working collaboratively within a pre-construction team, the successful candidate will be instrumental in tender preparation, cost planning, and value engineering, upholding the client's high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive mechanical estimates using drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Conduct precise quantity take-offs for HVAC, plumbing, pipework, and mechanical installations.
- Source and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare competitive tender submissions within stipulated deadlines.
- Analyze project risks, identify opportunities, and explore value engineering solutions.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal teams during the tender phase.
- Participate in tender review meetings and site visits as needed.
- Assist in the smooth handover of won projects to the delivery teams.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to departmental process improvements.
Skills & Experience Required
- Demonstrated experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the building services or MEP industry.
- Solid technical knowledge of mechanical building services systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical capabilities.
- Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tenders concurrently.
- A full UK driving licence is preferred.
Desirable Qualifications
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Experience on large-scale commercial or public sector projects.
- Familiarity with current industry regulations and standards.
