Role Overview

The Pipe Stress Engineer will handle stress studies and flexibility checks for piping systems across both early-stage and detailed project design. The role focuses on ensuring safe, code-compliant pipe routing, support design, and equipment nozzle load control.

Key Responsibilities

• Review P&IDs and line designation tables to determine the piping systems that require stress evaluation.
• Carry out flexibility assessments for critical piping arrangements during preliminary and detailed engineering stages.
• Analyze sustained, thermal, and operating load cases, including occasional loads such as wind, seismic events, relief scenarios, and water hammer.
• Perform stress checks for piping connected to steam turbines, compressors, centrifugal pumps, tanks, exchangers, heaters, columns, and similar equipment.
• Share pipe load details with the civil and structural teams for downstream design coordination.
• Address excessive nozzle loads and reduce elevated secondary stresses in piping networks.
• Select appropriate spring hangers, snubbers, and struts for piping support systems.
• Mark pipe support locations and support types on isometric drawings.
• Assess localized stresses using code-based methods such as WRC 107/297 or finite element analysis.
• Review and approve piping isometrics from the standpoint of flexibility and support adequacy.
• Compile complete stress analysis records and support design documentation.
• Examine and validate drawings, designs, and technical inputs received from suppliers.
• Work in coordination with other project disciplines and understand their technical impact on the assignment.
• Guide engineers, designers, and drafters by allocating tasks and providing technical direction on assigned work packages.
