United Exports is looking for a practical, motivated Production Assistant to help run day-to-day farm activities. In this role, you will work alongside the Production and Estate Managers to carry out production plans, guide farm workers, and help maintain strong productivity and quality standards.
This opportunity suits someone who enjoys agriculture and is comfortable working outdoors in a busy, hands-on environment.
Key performance areas
Field supervision
- Oversee and organise everyday farm work for pickers and general labourers.
- Allocate tasks and make sure output meets target levels and required standards.
- Support training in harvesting, pruning, planting, and general maintenance tasks.
- Keep an eye on quality and productivity, stepping in with practical help when required.
Hands-on farm duties
- Take part in blueberry picking and quality grading.
- Carry out pruning, planting, and trellising work.
- Help with irrigation installation and ongoing monitoring.
- Assist with fertilizer and crop protection applications when trained to do so.
- Inspect fields regularly to spot issues affecting plant health or irrigation.
Operational support
- Help plan farm activities on a daily and weekly basis.
- Track yields, harvest quantities, and workforce performance.
- Keep accurate production logs and timesheets.
- Support coordination between the field team and packing operations.
Resource management
- Ensure tools and equipment are used correctly and kept in good condition.
- Watch stock levels for items such as fertilizers, trays, and irrigation supplies.
- Report equipment failures and help improve resource efficiency.
Health, safety, and compliance
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and compliance requirements.
- Make sure PPE is used properly and that safe work methods are followed.
- Escalate hazards and maintain basic compliance documentation.
Requirements
The role calls for someone with at least 2 years of experience in farm production, ideally in soft fruit or low-chill crops. You should have seen the full production cycle from land preparation through to harvesting and ongoing maintenance.
A Certificate VI, Diploma, or Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a similar field is required, along with a working understanding of farm management systems and Microsoft Office.
Strong organisational ability, problem-solving skills, and confidence working with teams are important. You should also be comfortable adapting to changing weather and seasonal demands, and able to stay focused and effective under pressure.
