Python Engineer

Role overview

We are seeking a Python Engineer in Ireland to help build and improve backend systems that power genomic analysis and precision healthcare products. In this role, you will work with a distributed engineering group to create scalable web applications, APIs, and backend services relied on by researchers and healthcare teams around the world. The position combines hands-on development with architecture input, operational responsibility, and the chance to contribute to software that has meaningful real-world impact.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, support, and evolve backend applications and server-side components using Python and Django.
• Improve core web platforms, APIs, and backend services with a focus on speed, stability, and reliability.
• Design, build, and refine RESTful APIs that enable smooth interaction between frontend and backend systems.
• Take part in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing activities, and performance tuning efforts.
• Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and subject-matter experts to deliver complete, high-quality features.
• Contribute to deployment tasks, monitoring, production support, and shared on-call duties when needed.
• Maintain strong code quality by applying unit, integration, and functional testing practices.
• Own features through the full lifecycle, from planning and design to implementation, validation, and release.

Requirements

• A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or another relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of professional backend development experience using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework in production settings.
• Strong grasp of software design concepts, backend system architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Proven experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Good working knowledge of relational databases; MariaDB experience is a strong plus.
• Hands-on experience with unit, integration, and functional testing for software quality assurance.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Adaptable, collaborative approach with openness to working across tools and responsibilities.
• Exposure to Google Cloud Platform, Ansible, Bootstrap, React, or similar technologies is an advantage.
• Strong interest in bioinformatics, genomics, or healthcare technology is highly valued.
