Key Duties

  • Support the city’s mission, values, and workplace expectations in day-to-day work.
  • Plan and carry out follow-up actions for scheduled programs, special events, service projects, classes, league play, and other recreation activities so they are delivered on schedule.
  • Oversee youth and recreation offerings such as basketball, baseball/softball, volleyball, pickleball, football, tennis, tournaments, and similar activities.
  • Build program cost estimates, suggest budgets, and track spending to stay within approved financial limits.
  • Provide direct supervision to recreation staff, seasonal workers, temporary hires, and volunteers, including coaches, recreation specialists, site supervisors, and officials.
  • Arrange and lead training when needed, and step in to officiate, referee, or assist with coaching when required.
  • Keep league and tournament records, prepare fields and courts, adjust scoreboards, and help maintain event spaces such as the amphitheater when needed.
  • Fill in for administrative support staff when necessary.
  • Set league, program, and event schedules, manage seasonal and annual calendars, and ensure notices and announcements go out on time so target audiences can participate.
  • Support public outreach by recruiting part-time staff and volunteers, introducing new programs to the community, handling registrations, and reviewing programs after completion.
  • Promote recreation programs and facilities through media, notices, publications, flyers, and brochures.
  • Manage equipment and facility usage by checking items in and out and organizing reservations for public spaces, while ensuring returns happen on time.
  • Address concerns raised by coaches, participants, and organizations, and work toward practical solutions that improve recreation services.
  • Prepare financial projections for programs and events and complete final reports showing the financial results.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in recreation management, preferably from an NRPA-accredited program, youth recreation leadership, physical education, or another related discipline.
