Role overview
SG Consulting Limited is seeking a seasoned Senior Automation Test Engineer to strengthen a high-performing delivery team in Auckland, New Zealand. This role suits someone with deep expertise in SpecFlow, API testing, and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), along with a track record of building automated testing solutions for enterprise-grade applications. You will partner closely with Business Analysts, Developers, and Product Owners to support reliable software delivery through strong automation frameworks and continuous testing.
What you will do
- Build, enhance, and support scalable automated test frameworks using SpecFlow and C#.
- Develop and run automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test coverage.
- Author and execute API automation tests for RESTful services.
- Work with Business Analysts and Product Owners to shape acceptance criteria through BDD and Gherkin.
- Convert business requirements into automated test scenarios.
- Embed automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Investigate failed tests, identify root causes, and collaborate with developers to fix issues.
- Help ensure broad test coverage across applications and services.
- Take part in Agile rituals such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Guide junior testers and help improve testing practices over time.
Experience and technical background
- Minimum 7 years of software testing experience, including at least 3 years focused on test automation.
- Hands-on expertise with SpecFlow and C#.
- Practical API testing experience using tools such as Postman, Swagger, RestSharp, or similar.
- Clear understanding of BDD and its day-to-day application.
- Experience creating and maintaining Gherkin feature files.
- Ability to automate REST APIs and validate JSON/XML responses.
- Working knowledge of SQL for backend data checks.
- Exposure to Azure DevOps, Jira, or comparable Agile delivery tools.
- Experience using Git for version control.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and pipelines such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
- Strong analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
