Role Overview
This role is responsible for planning and coordinating post-extrusion operations so production commitments are met on time, within the planned budget, and at the required levels of quantity, recovery, and efficiency. It also supports dispatch and export activity as part of the broader extrusion planning and business process.
Work Context
The Alupuram Works operates two extrusion presses that were originally installed in 1955 and 1965, with several upgrades added over time. The plant’s annual capacity has expanded from 8,000 tons in 2002 to 13,800 TPA in the current year. The extrusion market is highly competitive, and the plant supplies a broad range of alloys and profiles across India, with a strong focus on value-added segments such as defence, bridges, automotive, marine, and electrical applications.
Job Challenges
This position supports the planning and dispatch function, which handles post-extrusion operations, dispatch planning, and all excise-related work for the Alupuram plant. The role helps keep finished goods inventory aligned with business targets by managing dispatch schedules in line with statutory excise requirements. It requires close coordination with central excise authorities and the production team based on daily customer needs.
The role also involves daily coordination meetings with the Head of Planning & Dispatch, the Post Extrusion Section Head, and sales teams or customers to review dispatch requirements and order progress. In addition, the position works closely with logistics to ensure dispatch documents move on time, since any delay can affect customer billing and revenue collection. It also coordinates movement of materials across multiple machine centres in the post-extrusion area to reduce lead time and improve efficiency.
Key difficulties in the role include adapting to customer-specific practices for more than 700 customers, managing both in-house and outsourced packing activities, delivering value-added services as per customer expectations, and identifying cost-effective packing solutions.
