કામનું વર્ણન

Overview

Pan Macmillan is hiring an Artworker to join its Art & Design team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role suits a creative professional with strong technical artwork skills who can prepare publishing artwork for both print and digital output. The position is based in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home during the week.

Team Environment

The Art & Design function is a lively and collaborative group that develops cover designs across multiple genres. The team works hand in hand with other departments from the first brief through to final print-ready delivery, and contributes illustrations, photography, and original design solutions. Fresh ideas, streamlined processes, and a strong connection to the books published are highly valued.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Studio Manager, you will help transform creative concepts into technically precise, production-ready artwork. You will work closely with designers, editors, and production colleagues to ensure all visual assets meet project requirements and are ready for print and digital use.

Key Duties

  • Create, refine, and adapt high-quality artwork for print while maintaining technical accuracy and visual consistency across adult imprints and selected children’s imprints.
  • Serve as the bridge between Design and Production when resolving print-related issues, and communicate directly with external printers on detailed finishes such as spot colours, foils, and embossing.
  • Coordinate with Editorial for review and sign-off, and work with Production and Editorial on critical path planning, proofing, amendments, and asset collection.
  • Provide Sales, Marketing, and Rights teams with visual assets, sales tools, polished mock-ups, presentation-ready visuals, and dummies.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting in the Biblio system to support publishing information and critical path tracking.
  • Stay open to new tools, methods, and workflows that can improve efficiency and drive innovation within the team.

Essential Experience and Skills

You should bring strong technical artwork capability, ideally gained in a book publishing or studio environment, along with a solid understanding of book design and print production. The role also calls for excellent file handling, proofing discipline, and the ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills are important, as you will need to build effective working relationships across Design, Production, Editorial, and Sales. You should be comfortable using Google Workspace and publishing workflow systems, ideally Biblio. Pan Macmillan also expects a commitment to inclusive publishing practices, a collaborative mindset, curiosity, and honesty in how you work.

Desirable Experience

It would be an advantage if you have previously dealt directly with external printers on complex print finishes.

Benefits

The role comes with a competitive salary and benefits package, plus access to a broad range of workplace perks.

  • 28 days of annual leave, increasing with length of service, plus bank holidays
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Discounted private medical insurance or a health cash plan
  • Group income protection cover
  • Enhanced family pay and leave
  • Flexible hours and summer hours, including an early Friday finish during the summer months
  • Two volunteer days each year
  • 75% discount on all Pan Macmillan books and regular heavily discounted staff book sales
  • Season ticket loan or advance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Retail and gym discounts, plus Christmas club savings
  • Daily free breakfast and a monthly company lunch

Application and Eligibility

Applications must be submitted through the company careers site; email submissions and CVs sent outside the process will not be accepted. Shortlisting may take time because each application is reviewed carefully. Candidates must have the right to live and work in the UK.

Equality, Disability Support, and Privacy

The employer is committed to representing a wide range of voices in publishing and to building a workplace that is inclusive and welcoming. Applications are encouraged from people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, disabilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, and religions or beliefs. As a Disability Confident employer, they encourage disabled applicants and those with long-term health conditions, and aim to offer an interview to everyone who meets the essential criteria and applies under the scheme, subject to interview limits where volumes are exceptionally high. Candidates are not required to disclose a disability unless they wish to do so. Reasonable adjustments and accessibility support are available by contacting the Head of Talent Acquisition at the email provided in the source notice. Personal information submitted during recruitment will be handled in line with the Recruitment Privacy Notice.
