Role overview
Valard Construction’s Major Projects team is hiring an Assistant Project Manager in Calgary, Alberta. This position supports the early-stage planning and launch of major electrical infrastructure projects, working in close partnership with the Project Manager. The role is focused on helping coordinate schedules, budgets, subcontractor delivery, and communication with project stakeholders across transmission work throughout Canada.
What you will do
- Help build, update, and monitor project schedules, milestones, and execution plans alongside the Project Manager.
- Assist with procurement and subcontractor oversight by reviewing quotations, tracking commitments, and checking performance against contract obligations.
- Draft weekly and monthly reporting packages.
- Support invoicing, track project spending, predict cost variances, and prepare recurring financial updates for leadership and the Project Manager.
- Handle routine communication with clients, subcontractors, regulators, and project partners on behalf of the Project Manager.
What is required
- A post-secondary credential in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a closely related area.
- At least 3 years of experience in project management or project coordination.
- Strong understanding of project management methods and project controls, including schedule, cost, and change management.
- PMP certification, or active progress toward obtaining it.
- Good command of Microsoft Excel for tracking and reporting work.
Preferred background
- Experience supporting electrical infrastructure projects.
- Solid capability in project cost control.
