Backend Engineer

Role overview

This is a remote hourly contract opportunity for a Backend Engineer based in the United States. The engagement is structured for 10 to 40 hours per week, with compensation ranging from $30 to $130 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, improve, and support backend services and APIs that can scale reliably.
• Create microservice-based systems designed for strong performance in cloud environments.
• Design, tune, and maintain both relational and non-relational databases for speed and dependability.
• Work closely with frontend engineers to deliver complete, well-integrated product experiences.
• Package and run applications with Docker and Kubernetes as part of deployment and operations.
• Apply sound engineering practices around code quality, automated delivery, application security, and source control.
• Support teammates through mentoring and help strengthen a collaborative engineering environment.

Required qualifications

• Solid hands-on experience with Python, Java, and FastAPI.
• Practical exposure to backend frameworks such as Spring, Django, or Flask.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
• Proven ability to build APIs and work with microservice architectures.
• Experience using Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Clear written and spoken communication skills.
• Good understanding of secure software development principles.
