Role Overview
The Category Development Manager will work closely with Sales, Marketing, and retail partners to uncover present and future revenue opportunities. This role focuses on identifying category expansion potential, shaping growth initiatives, and supporting decisions around product placement, pricing, distribution priorities, and retailer-specific opportunities through strong category insights and selling tools.
What You Will Do
- Create insight-based selling narratives that help secure retailer support for key initiatives.
- Build category review materials covering category and brand performance, shopper behavior, retailer trends, and new item evaluations for Sales and Marketing teams.
- Prepare category sales presentations tailored to customer-specific distribution and merchandising opportunities.
- Deliver category reviews and ongoing sales reporting to senior leadership.
- Respond quickly to questions, requests, and issues while ensuring product, program, and promotion information is communicated clearly.
- Support a positive public image of the company and help protect its professional reputation.
- Maintain effective communication and coordination with internal teams and management.
- Assist other departments as needed and share information across the organization.
- Keep management updated on team activities and any important concerns.
- Take part in meetings and committee work as required.
- Prepare reports, records, and related documentation.
What You Need
- Hands-on experience using Circana/Nielsen POS data, Numerator, and retailer loyalty data.
- Background in category management, trade marketing, and national account sales.
- Strong analytical ability, technical understanding, and solid communication skills.
- High attention to detail and proficiency with computers.
- Good writing ability, oral communication, and basic mathematical skills.
- Working knowledge of third-party and direct distribution models, pricing approaches, and promotional strategies.
- Strong presentation skills and advanced Excel capability.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related discipline.
- Five or more years of relevant experience in category management, trade marketing, and sales.
- CPG experience is required; pharmaceutical experience is considered a plus.
Additional Information
This role includes a travel requirement of approximately 5%, with travel possible by car, plane, or rail.
The position follows a hybrid schedule. Employees must be available to work from the Tarrytown office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with remote work on Monday and Friday.
The standard schedule is 40 hours per week.

The role requires the ability to read and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Mathematical duties include calculating discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, as well as applying basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning ability includes understanding written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions and solving problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position is mostly sedentary and regularly involves sitting. The role frequently requires speaking and hearing, and occasionally involves standing, walking, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or moving items up to 10 pounds. Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are also needed.
The work environment is typically moderate in noise level.
