Role overview
Healios is hiring a contract Content Copywriter to support Care Companion, a digital experience for neurodivergent children and young people aged 6 to 18, along with their families. The assignment runs on a fixed-term or day-rate basis, begins as soon as possible, and is expected to continue until around November 2026. Compensation is listed at approximately £46 per hour or through a fixed-term salary arrangement. This role is available to UK-based candidates working remotely.
About the work
The team is expanding a substantial collection of accessible, neuro-affirming materials such as guides, prompts, learning modules, and courses. The successful writer will convert clinically reviewed information into friendly, age-appropriate copy that is easy to understand and suitable for building into interactive learning content.
Core responsibilities
- Create tailored copy for multiple audiences, including younger children (6–11), older children (12–15), young people (16–18), and parents or carers, adjusting tone, language, and pacing for each group while maintaining a warm in-house style.
- Consistently write in a strengths-based, neuro-affirming way that aligns with Care Companion’s brand voice and editorial guidance.
- Develop content that meets accessibility expectations under WCAG 2.2 AA, including plain wording, purposeful alt text, and well-structured layouts.
- Plan and outline resources for interactive formats such as video and animation so they can be handed over clearly to builders or producers.
- Collaborate with clinical experts to shape materials, produce initial drafts for review, and incorporate feedback.
- Treat sensitive subject matter carefully within agreed editorial boundaries, escalating clinical issues to the clinical lead and scope or content queries to the content manager.
- Maintain organised files, track versions carefully, and call out assumptions or unresolved questions clearly.
Requirements
- At least five years of relevant professional experience.
- Proven ability to write using neuro-affirming language for neurodivergent children, young people, and families.
- Strong portfolio showing copy adapted for different audiences and reading levels, ideally including children, young people, or family-facing work.
- Ability to work within a defined brand voice and follow a style guide accurately.
- Comfort writing to accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA.
- Capability to storyboard for interactive and multimedia outputs and to learn a no-code authoring tool quickly.
- Experience working through review, approval, and version-control workflows.
- Self-directed working style with the confidence to take a brief and progress it independently.
- Strong collaboration skills and openness to feedback from colleagues and clinicians.
- Highly organised, dependable, and able to manage multiple versions and deadlines.
Desirable experience
- Personal or professional familiarity with neurodivergence and neuro-affirming language.
- Ability to think in scripts for short video or animation.
- Background in health, education, or another regulated content setting.
- Practical experience with Cogniss or a similar no-code learning platform.
Diversity and inclusion
Healios says that inclusivity is a core value and that a diverse team helps build better services for the children and young people it supports. The organisation aims to bring together people with different skills, identities, experiences, and perspectives so its products and care experiences are more effective and equitable.
Safer recruitment and pre-employment checks
As part of the hiring process, selected candidates will be required to complete safeguarding checks. These include a DBS check, which may be Enhanced or Basic depending on the role, a PVG check, and at least two professional references.
Contract details
