Role overview
In this position, you will represent Tesco on the road, delivering customer orders and providing a friendly, helpful service at people’s homes. The job is active and varied, combining driving with customer interaction and practical work. Each shift can look different, and you’ll be supported by managers and colleagues at base whenever needed.
Tesco welcomes applicants looking for flexibility, long-term stability, or a change in career direction. The role is open to a wide range of people, as long as they meet the driving and eligibility requirements.
Availability window
The expected working pattern for this role is:
- Sunday: 18:00 to 22:00
- Monday: 19:00 to 23:00
- Wednesday: 08:00 to 18:00
- Friday: 19:00 to 23:00
- Saturday: 18:00 to 22:00
You will be scheduled within these windows, and your exact shifts will be confirmed with 3 weeks’ notice. Tesco says it can also consider candidates whose availability is close to, though not exactly the same as, the times shown.
Pay and hours
The hourly pay begins at £14.18, rising to £15.45 per hour for stores located inside the M25. Depending on the location, additional payments may also be available. New starters are normally offered at least 16 guaranteed hours per week, and there may also be options for fewer hours, with a minimum of 12 hours per week.
What the job involves
- Delivering shopping orders to customers within their chosen time slot.
- Keeping the van, trays, and work area clean, organised, and free from litter.
- Checking that the vehicle is roadworthy before use and loading it correctly.
- Handling substitutions and short-code items by discussing changes with customers and arranging refunds when needed.
- Treating groceries and deliveries carefully as though they were your own.
- Letting customers know that substitutions will not cost them extra.
- Calling ahead if you expect to arrive early.
- Contacting the store or centre if you are likely to be 30 minutes or more late.
