HGV Driver

About the Role

DHL Supply Chain Uganda is recruiting Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Drivers to support daily logistics operations. This role is part of a global contract logistics business focused on transport, fulfilment, distribution, and sustainability. The position is central to delivering reliable service, maintaining vehicle standards, and supporting safe and timely movement of goods.

Key Duties

• Drive and look after company vehicles according to instructions, using them efficiently at all times.
• Complete journey plans accurately and on time so every trip is properly recorded.
• Take responsibility for the assigned vehicle and the goods being transported.
• Report for duty at the scheduled start time and perform consistently throughout the shift.
• Deliver consignments punctually, in full, and in good condition.
• Provide a high standard of customer service during all deliveries and interactions.
• Follow health and safety procedures and workplace regulations without exception.
• Promptly inform supervisors about any incidents or accidents.
• Keep the vehicle clean and tidy at all times.
• Operate only within the business areas assigned by management.
• Inspect the vehicle and load before departure and confirm the route and destination in advance.
• Wear PPE whenever required.
• Record defects in the defect book and ensure the truck remains roadworthy and clean.
• Check that goods match the invoice in quantity, brand, and load security before moving off.
• Drive safely, obey traffic laws, and respect required speed limits.
• Maintain clear and timely communication throughout the route.
• Confirm the load with the distributor on arrival and remain present during offloading.
• Ensure all documents are signed and stamped, and that shortages, damages, or missing items are properly declared on PODs.
• Return PODs within the required timeframe to the correct receiving point.
• Keep the vehicle and cargo secure at all times while on the road.
• Double-check the final destination before departure to prevent delivery errors.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with customers.

Requirements

• Minimum education level: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).
• At least 6 years of experience driving heavy goods vehicles.
• Solid knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving or Smith training, and effective English communication.
• Good familiarity with road networks across Uganda.
• Preferred age range: 30 to 35 years.
• Valid driving permit categories B, C, C1, and CE with a clean record.
