The City of Pearland, Texas is hiring a full-time Lead Operator for the Wastewater division. This role is responsible for guiding daily operations, supporting system reliability, and helping ensure wastewater-related work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards.

Compensation and incentives
The hourly pay range for this position is $26.53 to $28.729, with the exact rate determined by experience and qualifications. Employees may also receive certification pay for licenses above the minimum requirement.
New hires may qualify for up to $5,000 in hiring incentives when joining the Utilities team as a licensed TCEQ Water Operator, with the amount tied to license grade: Grade C - $2,500, Grade B - $3,500, and Grade A - $5,000.

Key duties
This position leads and participates in wastewater operations and related maintenance activities. The work includes supporting inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of pumping, treatment, chemical control, monitoring, and SCADA equipment, as well as helping maintain compliance and respond to urgent situations.
Additional information
This role includes after-hours response, on-call or standby duty as needed, emergency support, and collaboration with other crews during leaks or infrastructure repairs. It also involves maintaining operational records, using manual and powered tools, and performing other related tasks as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications
Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, along with specialized training or experience in the water industry or a related field. College coursework or certifications in environmental science, microbiology, or chemistry are preferred.
A minimum of five years of experience in potable water treatment is required.
The position requires a valid Class B Wastewater Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Higher-level licenses may qualify for additional certification pay.
